This Intensive provides the conceptual foundations of Dr. Neufeld's attachment-based developmental paradigm.  Participants are trained to use the constructs of attachment, maturation and vulnerability to view children and their problems three-dimensonally and from this base of perceptive insight, to open doors for deep-rooted change.  Participants will learn to recognize the signs of stuckness, determine the causes of this condition, and get children unstuck.  Course participants are also equipped to use a working model of attachment that can be applied to children of all ages and levels of challenge, to assess for the appropriate depth and development of attachment, and to employ strategies for cultivating a context of connection with the immature.

There is no prerequisite for this course although it is strongly recommended that participants read Hold On To Your Kids before attending. The Neufeld Intensive I is the prerequisite however to the Level II, which in turn, opens the door to further opportunities for study, authorization and training. 9 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday.  The event is held in the conference facilities of the Vancouver Museum which are located in the Planetarium complex which sits on beautiful waterfront grounds at the southern end of the Burrard Bridge.  The conference room is truly a 'room with a view' and is conducive to contemplation.  The grounds and seawall walk provide ample opportunities for strolling and reflection.

Tuition is $695 (includes refreshments and course material). A 20 % discount is available for current university graduate students. Tuition fees will be fully refundable if cancella­tion is made prior to one month before the course begins. A $100 deposit is required upon registration to hold a space.

The focus of this Intensive is the challenging problems of childhood and youth: aggression, resistance, oppositionality, anxiety, dominance problems, bullying, compulsiveness, attachment problems, attention problems and more. The objective is to make sense of these problems and from this foundation of insight, to outline strategies for treatment and intervention.

This Intensive is appropriate for all those who work with children or the adults responsible for them. Typical participants include psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, social workers, physicians, nurses, university professors, play therapists, marriage and family therapists, teachers, school administrators, day-care providers, clergy, youth workers, probation officers and staff of residential programs for troubled kids.  Parents who are comfortable with a university level approach to the subject are also invited to attend.

The basic prerequisite for this course is the Neufeld Intensive Level One which is available through Distance Education as well as taught onsite in Vancouver every summer. Even though a person may have had broad exposure to Dr. Neufeld's teaching, the Intensive One puts the pieces together in a way that can lead to universal application. The topic for this Level 3 Intensive is Becoming Attached: expanding and reflecting on the six modes of attachment.  This material comes from the last two years of master classes for faculty and interns.  For those who participated in these master classes, this will be an opportunity to refresh and reflect on this material again. For others, this will be an opportunity to delve deeper into this material that is so foundational to the paradigm.
